Earth Day Activity of Class 8-Composting

Image
Composting is simply the process of breaking down the organic matter (food waste) in the presence of air and water, using micro-organisms and small insects present in nature. The end product is called compost which is rich in readily usable plant nutrients forming a part of healthy soil. Composting organisms require 4 conditions to create compost: 1. Carbon that comes from brown organic matter like dried leaves, sawdust, paper. 2. Nitrogen that comes from fruit and vegetable waste, coffee grounds. 3. Oxygen which comes from air. 4. Water in the right amounts. Students of class VIII A Primus separated edible kitchen waste (fruits and vegetable peels) in a container and collected dry organic matter (dried leaves, sawdust) in a small container. A large earthen pot was taken and the bottom was lined with a layer of soil. The food waste was added in layers alternating wet waste (food scraps, fruits and vegetable peels) with dry waste (straw, sawdust, dried leaves). Finally the...

Inter-house Elocution Competition

Topic- CONNECTIVITY - Boon of Technology Social media and emerging mobile technologies have forever changed the landscape of human interaction. As technology improves, it becomes more and more human. Apple's Siri attempts to mimic humanity through snarky conversations and humor, and Google attempts to understand our behavior to deliver more relevant information and content to better connect with users through their various services. We live in a world which is more connected than ever before. We may one day reach a point where true conversations can happen between man and machine, but as of now, it is up to the people, the users of technology, to drive this human connection. We should use technology to our benefit and also guide students to use it wisely so that they do not waste their precious time. An Inter-house Elocution Competition on "Connectivity-Boon of Technology" was held in class VIIIA Primus where each student shared their views and voiced their opinion o...

Parent Interaction Proramme (PIP)

Image
A Parent Interaction Programme (PIP) was organised for parents of class VIII A Primus on 22 April 2017 where parents and teachers got a platform to interact and work together for the better future of their children. Parents got to know about the Primus curriculum and assessment plan so that they can get involved and support their child's education. Besides getting their individual queries resolved, the parents participated in an activity conducted for them -a maths puzzle where they were given cards numbered 1-18 and they had to pair them up such that the sum of the numbers is a square number, with the condition that no number is to be left out or repeated. The concept of a square number was discussed and an example was discussed. They actively performed the activity and realised that the Primus curriculum is hands-on and fun that encourages out-of-the-box thinking.

Educational Visit-Gandhi Smriti

Image
The first school trip for this session was organised on 21  April 2017 to Gandhi Smriti. It was a very educative and enjoyable visit where we learnt many facts about Mahatma Gandhi. The volunteers guided us well. The national memorial honours the virtues of truth, non-violence, unity and equality. We saw many cherished memories of the last days of the Father of the Nation.  The tour commenced with a visit to ‘Martyr’s Column’, where Gandhiji was assassinated. There were footprints made of stone, signifying the steps of the Father of the Nation in his last moments. Next, we saw the room, where Gandhiji lived in his last days, with some of his personal belongings and inspirational quotes on display. The place had beautiful lawns with pillars of quotations which are a source of pride and inspiration for all. The best part was a tour of the museum. We were first shown a short presentation of the fateful, tragic day when Gandhiji was assassinated.  Then the volunteers guided u...
