CURRENT AFFAIRS OCTOBER 2017 CLASS 8 PRIMUS
1. On 2 October 2017, World Habitat Day was
observed all over the world. The theme for 2017 is “Housing Policies:
affordable Home”.
2. On 4-10 October 2017, World Space Week is
observed all over the world. The theme for 2017 is “Exploring New Worlds in
Space”. It challenges us to look outwards from Earth & consider
possibilities beyond our own sky’s limits.
3. On 4 October 2017, a book titled “The Singing
Tree” was launched by an International NGO, Orbis India, to spread awareness on
preventing child blindness. The author of this book is Ken Youngstein.
4. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National
Unity Day) is observed every year across India on 31 October to commemorate the
birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
5. The World Polio Day is observed
annually across the world on 24 October to create awareness about the hazards
of the crippling Polio disease. The day was established by Rotary International
to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk who led the first team of researchers
who developed a vaccine against poliomyelitis (polio virus).
6. Veteran writer-lyricist Javed
Akhtar (72years) was honoured with the 2017 Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award at an event
in Mumbai which marked the 80th birthday of veteran music composer Hridaynath
Mangeshkar and the 28th anniversary of Hridayesh Arts.
7. Indian Railway’s first set of
solar plants with total capacity of 5 megawatt peak (MWp) was launched on roof
tops of Hazrat Nizamuddin, New Delhi, Anand Vihar and Delhi railway stations by
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
8. Heena Sidhu won 10-metre air
pistol gold medal at Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Brisbane, Australia.
9. Paolo Gentiloni is first prime
minister of Italy to visit India. India and Italy have signed six agreements to
boost cooperation in the fields of railways safety, energy and promoting mutual
investments, among other.
10. In World Bank’s recently released Doing
Business (DB) Report 2018 titled as ‘Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create
Jobs’, India leapfrogged to 100th rank among 190 countries. India has jumped
over 30 ranks to attain the 100th spot from 130th position in 2017 Ease of
Doing Business Index.
